E-book reader with epub file format loosing ground, dropped sales of E-book readers such as Kindle
I read a small note in the Swedish Graphics & Print Magazine Grafiskt Forum AGI”, the number for the upcoming fair PRINT 2013 ( Google translate) 5-7 february 2013, in Kista suburb to Stockholm, SWEDEN, that the E-book readers are beginning to loose ground, drop in sales.
But what does it mean for Content Providers – writers and publichers. Those who create novels to be read on E-book readers such as KINDLE from Amazon, and especially the file format epub, not to forget. What’s the file format that will apply now and in the future. Will e-pub disappear as the file format or will it remain in the highest degree. Will all book consumers like to read mystery novels on ipads now? Will epub file format be that constant that will be used on devices such as smartphones, e-readers like ipads, Microsoft Surface, etcetera?
Personally I believe epub will continue as a file format and live its life, but how and where.
For E-Comics though it does not have to mean so much. After all ePub is not the first selected file format, as E-comics do better on devices that show images and text together in the best way – such as ipads and surface.
According to Swedish magazine ”Grafiskt Forum AGI” who refer to reports/surveys from IHS iSuppli, who reports that E-Book reader sales dropped by 36 percent in 2012, compared according to AGI / IHS iSuppli with the year 2011 when the number of units sold was 23.2 million . And for the year 2013 are believed sales will dropp to 10.9 million units.
IHS iSuppli believe that e-readers will take over more and more, and that in 2016 calculated pads sold will be about 340 million units.
