The Designing Nokia Lumia story – I just like my Lumia
I just like my Nokia Lumia 800. Its a black colour and now it has what make me use it even more – internet sharing. It means its even more convinient for me as a freelance illustrator & graphic designer to sit at the local cafés hooking up my laptop to the internet. Beside my laptop I have my wacom pen tablet, intous. My two black coloured sketchbooks, pencils and markers, and of course my Nokia Lumia 800 using the internet sharing feature and use it for surfing with my laptop while working.
I love the way the designers of Nokia Lumia 800 and later models following their new design language, and how they manage to make such a simple look, but yet so stylish and contemporary look and feel. I like how the corners are simultaneously round and hard edged 90 degrees. Both hard and soft. Just like good illustration, art and design should be – contrast. Genius!
I read in todays swedish media that the swedish stockbrokers valued Nokia stocks lower and it dropped 13%, and that after the release of Nokias new Lumia models. I dont get that. I get that stocks goes up and down, but it being a release of a great smartphone? – no.
You may use an iphone or a samsung or a htc or whatever, and they are all great phones no doubt, but so is Nokia Lumia as well. I sit at cafés where lots of others sits with their iphones and samsungs etcetera, and I never feel inferior to them. I know my smartphone from Nokia is outstanding – except ALL of these brands like iphone, samsung, htc, nokia, experia have way to bad battery life nowadays. Battery life is really the only hickups amongts most smartphones of today, not the rest of the features.
I dont get this app hysteria, saying Nokia lacked apps. Now who needs 400 000 apps installed on their smartphones? I only need those I use, and that regardless of its being a iphone with few apps or Nokia with a lot of apps.
And I like the new windows phone 7 and windows phone 8.
Here is a video about designing the Nokia Lumia 800. Yes its probably made as a storytelling, selling video of Nokia and windows phone in generall, but its also quite interesting as well. I am not naive to why the video was made, but hey, its a good view anyway.
Enjoy Nokia Lumia and windows phone, I do
