Affordable art fair, Stockholm 2013

Affordable art fair, Stockholm 2013, have come to town
I went with my girlfriend to the vernissage, grand opening, of the Affordable art fair in Stockholm Sweden. Hosted in one of the buildings in one of the docks called Frihamnen, view Google Maps.

It was a fair packed with lots of great art from artists in Sweden as well as other countries. Even so far away as Australia. A gallery from Sydney exhibiting aboriginal paintings, among their artist on the fair.

The fair like to make a thing of it offering art in the price range of 500 sek to 45000 sek. Good marketing to get media coverage of course. But boring when just the price range tag gets coverage in the media, and not the actual art as much. A bit sad because the art being shown by various galleries are good. To be fair, not all media only mention the price tag.

My friend and great painter, and fellow artist exhibiting at Carlson art stand is Debora House. Originally from America who also lives in Sweden. She makes stunning paintings built up by layers of transparant colours, resulting in both eye-catching and beautiful imagery with a soul. Paintings that will grow with you. Aging with kept artistic quality. In my view it is a bit or Turner in her work, but still very much her own work. Not imitating, just the work with light and the way the brushstrokes dance over the canvas. We both work with layers upon layers. If you like to compare, here is some of my painting work. Working with layers of paint upon paint It is not unique in the world of painting , but Deborah does it better than most. It is air and earth and water. Real stuff. Good stuff.

As always it was great fun to meet up with Debora at the fair as friends as well as enjoying her new art at the fair as painting artist colegues. At the fair look for CARLSONART, stand/space: d 12.18.

I got to bump into a new artist to me: Marco Crivello. He exibites at the fair at Four Square Art space/stand. He somewhat resembles me of Debora House art in rergard to the work with lights and similarities to how he seem to appliy the paint, but the two are still unique artists in their own right. The mood and possible underlying philosphy if you so like in the subject matter.

There is a French gallery, Envie d´Art Galleries with addresses in both Paris and London, we visited at the fair, who showed art that should please many visitors. One particular artist we stopped infront at their stand and looked at was Eduard Buzon. Contemporary without scaring people off and nothing wrong with that. Could be seen as illustration inspired art like lots of art is these days, Similar to how pop-artists in the 60´s and onward have done before. And aslo very much a feeling I got from many artists work at the fair. Here as well I can see similarities actually to my own illustration and graphic desing work See more> The artist uses layers on layers of varnish with paint. Giving a very bright, crispy and glossy effect to the image. Like if you were looking at a high resolution computer screen. Sign of the times one could say.

Visit the fair Affordable art and enjoy the art.
