My studio and others studios, and your studio – here a few inspirational ones in ImagineFX magazine

We all have our own places where we work. Some have huge offices, studios, atelier, workshops, sharing with others, working from home – and café´s.

I have basically had all of the above. I got inspired to post this after reading an article today in the online version of Imagine FX magazine. 

In 1999 when Mia and I had been together for a while she caught me sitting at the café around the corner having a swedish fika. Sipping a double espresso, swedish brew cup or cappuccino – and a nice cookie – and doing work with illustrations and sketches for paintings. Many projects working on simultaneously. My own studio at the time was 55 square meters and 3,5 meter high ceiling. And big windows towards the street slightly overlooking Långhålmen at Södermalm, Stockholm, Sweden.

But that’s me, I need to sit at cafes as well as sitting at home and separate studios. Its part of who I am and how I work. SOme believe I sit at cafés all day long, but that’s not true. I sit a few hours and sometimes more, but mostly just 1-2 hours before heading back home to work or a separate studio workplace. But when I go alone to cafés which I do 9/10 I am working. My sketch pad, markers and pens and my wacom, laptop and Corel graphics programs. I am both traditional and digital in my work.

When I wrote the article ”Book Cover illustration and Design” for the CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X5 Guidebook (page 163 – 173), yes I write, illustrate, paint and design, I biked downtown to a cafe called Espresso house on Sveavägen in Stockholm. (In Sweden we only have like 1-2 starbucks by the way). It freed my mind and in combo with sitting outside the home under a plum tree, it was the perfect setting.
