Maybe I demand too much from Pop & Rock Music Stars of today

I opened the news papers this morning at a café, and reading online while watching photos from the MTV VMA Music Awards 2015. Maybe I ask too much from the younger Pop & Rock Music Stars of today. Maybe todays stars should try to be more quality oriented musicians, and great entertaining performers in studios and on stage or screen, first and foremost. Many of them are, but many still focus too much on the exterior than the interior, meaning their art.

While sipping my brew cup of coffee and taking a bite of my danish with vanilla cream, watching the pics, so many stars were looking so much for attention at the VMA Music Awards, trying harder to be outrageous and scandalous. And I kind of don´t blame them. Its part of their job. But they seem to do it more or less desperately. Competing on who could dress up in less than anyone else. Only to, a few days later say they are being haunted by Paparazzis. And that their private life have been violated. Which it might have. Unfortunatley that´s what the young pop & rock stars are concentrating on today – attention first and music after. It should be the other way around. If they tell me I am wrong, then why come to an award dressed in just about nothing. Just barely to cover a nipple or two.

I know, it´s about making money. And its for the kids, teenagers, their own generation. And the young will claim I dont get it. But seriously we have all been the same age. And it´s part of being young to love attention and think attention equals recognition. Which it doesnt.

Dawid Bowie´s Classic ”Life on Mars”. He got a lot attention in the media through the decades. He created classics and was part of reshaping music styles as we know of it today. David Bowie sure new how to show the exterior of himself as it was part of his theatrical persona in the 70´s. But what we remember first is his tracks and artistic persona. Not a sole attention seeker. The attention seeking infront of paparazzis and tv cameras of today is often more in tune with a Like button on Facebook, than to get attanetion of ones art. Now, if people wanna be nude, thats okey. Madoona made a nude book. But if that becomes the first and foremost ptiority, for a pop & rock star at the MTV VMA music awards, something must have got lost on the way. I believe it has.
