American football or just Football
American football is the most common term outside the US. In US they call it Soccer. In Italy Calcio. But American football shouldn’t it just be called American rugby instead? Nah, the Americans decided they wanted football as well – just their own way. Football is football. And it’s a non issue really to be fully honest. But for the fun of it we tend to get all jigged in going ding over this. After all the world outside US know it’s football. Even the Italian’s.
Now the world cup in Brazil is long past. In Europe the national teams prepare for the euro cup in France 2016. And the various leagues in the big football countries start. In Sweden our league is in full swing already and ends in the fall.
Celso Borges the great Costa Rica national team football player in World Cup Brazil played in Sweden and team AIK, but probably move to French team Evian and l Ligue 1 as of today.
The big games are full speed ahead in Europe. Summer is still here. Soon the cold arrives and games continues.
Be sure to enjoy watching the world’s best player seen since 2004: Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Enjoy watching the man who makes goals and passes continously others are happy to make once in their career. And have done since he was a kid in Sweden. Why the best since 2004 you may ask, because no other have had such a career and continuity. And because after all its the beautiful game and he makes it beautiful. Full stop.

I have to disagree, the name is just plain Football, or a variation of the word. ”American Football” is what the rest of america calls US Football (obloid+protective gear)
Hello BarbaDeHule, Sorry but I dont understand what it is to disagree on. Calcio is actually the word for football in italy. Soccer is the word used for football in the US and possibly Australia as well. Not sure. Americans just call it Football, their own sport where they use an oval ball that is smaller in size of a Rugby ball. But anyway I dont see what the disagreement is about. The issue was and is the different meaning about the word. Cheers!
Hi there, sorry, did not mean to sound bitter, it was this: ”American football is the most common term outside the US” I was just pointing out that ”American football” is used to describe US Football not soccer. Soccer outside the US is plain Football, Futbol, Calcio etc etc.
No worries. To see the fun: as a non-American it’s a bit of teasing involved here. We non Americans in Europe enjoy joking about it. At least myself and my friends around Europe who enjoys football. Now we are coming to realize that America have become better in football. After the Brazil world cup. In Europe we’ve always looked at Americans playing ”real” football as not really a true football country. Now we might have to view ot differently. So there is no hard feelings, just joking around
I have friends that would take issue with your ”real football” remark Hahaha (I’m Mexican by the way) I’m not really a fan, just having fun with semantics. Best regards!
Which is my intent – to joke with the north Americans 🙂 During the world cup of football I did just that with some of my friends from the US. But also others. I am from the small country of Sweden and it’s fun to joke with the US Americans who usually win so much in some sports. It’s just for the fun of it. And the fun of semantics. Take my fellow Swede Zlatan Ibrahimovic who i believe is THE best player the last 10 years. And the most audacious player we currently have in international football. Still the brittish press, except The Guardian, simply wouldn’t recognize Ibrahimovic greatness – because had not played in the English premier league. And then Sweden played against England and won 4 – 0. All goals where fantastic goals and all made by Ibrahimovic and one goal in particular astounded the world and brittish press especially. These days when you read the brittish press they have all capitulate. And now they all write all great about him. Now all recognise his greatness. I believe him being greater than Messi and Ronaldo. And that is by some very hard to read. Because they feel M and R have made more goals. But i believe football is more than just the amount of goals. Football players like Zlatan Ibrahimovic lifts the sport to a new higher level. He is not only a footballer he is also an artist. A football magician. Even if you are not so interested of football, take a cup of tea or coffee and watch video clips on YouTube with Zlatans goals and you will see what I mean. And if you enjoy watching a full game then look at him playing for PSG.FR. See what an eye he has. And how he see openings not many others would when passing the ball.
Mexico is north America too, but traditionally Mexico is more a football country than US.
Enjoy!
